HOW I CAN HELP

At the time of diagnosis

I’m here to relieve the stress of food and eating after your cancer diagnosis.I know the research on cancer and nutrition and can guide you through informed decisions on food, nutrition, and fueling your body.

Now is the time to examine your food fears, eating restrictions, and personal food beliefs. While I can provide the scientific reasons why strict black-and-white meal plans and ways of eating set you up for failure, I know it’s not the science that will begin to change your mindset.

Navigating through treatment

There will be times when eating is tough. I’m here to navigate you through.

With my extensive experience guiding men and women through chemotherapy and radiation therapy, I can guide you proactively around the obstacles you may face. Even though everyone experiences side effects differently, being prepared for the likely can help you succeed.

Together, we set goals and discuss eating strategies to stay nourished during treatment while talking about barriers to body attunement and food peace.

Escape from constant food rules

I’m here to guide you away from outside rules about food that control your life. What have those rules done for you before cancer? What do you think those rules will do now?

“Dig in deeper. Buckle down and really commit to all the rules in the food and cancer book”, you may say.

Then what.

At some point, the frustration and shame that comes from failing diets will come.

I see you. There is another way forward. One without restrictions and rules. One you cannot fail.

What past clients have to say…

I was looking for someone with both Intuitive Eating and cancer nutrition experience (there aren’t too many out there), and Amber was the perfect fit for me. I wanted to learn to support my body in a new way: not through punishment or restrictions but through assessing my true needs and providing my body with the nourishment it needed during treatment and recovery. Amber helped me to see that in spite of all the noise (media, diet plans, cancer protocols), my body is wise and knows what’s best for me in the moment.

Originally I asked for guidance from Amber because I had been treated for breast cancer, which included an oopher/hysterectomy and hormone treatment. I wanted to know how food could help keep me as healthy as possible, how to keep the cancer from returning, and I was also interested in loosing a bit of weight (I would learn quickly to focus on goals other than weight loss). I have worked with Amber during many different seasons and transitions. Most recently, she supported me while I was trying to support my daughter with a special diet her doctor had recommended. Amber helped me to dig deep into why the diet was not right for me and how I could manage the stress of my daughter’s needs in other ways. We worked together to learn to trust my body and trust myself to hear my body’s signals. I’ve learned that Intuitive Eating is a wonderful tool and a healthy way to live life. Amber has completely ruined any ability I have to diet! :) Now I have the tools to lean into my feelings, feed my body what it wants, and love my body for what it can do and not what it looks like.

I originially sought out Amber for help with weight loss and improving my diet to regain energy. What I learned instead is to accept my body as it is and to eat in an intuitive manner which nurtures the body and emphasizes pleasurable food choices. I definitely would recommend working with Amber to others.

I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer at the age of 38. My goals for seeing Amber were to maintain my weight through chemotherapy treatment, listen to my body, identify fears about food, and how to experience more freedom. My biggest takeaway was how I felt more freedom with food and less fear about the choices I make.

I was interested in nutrition counseling with Amber after she gave a presentation for one of our support group meetings. Some of the things she talked about really resonated with me. Originally, I wanted her to help me fuel my body better and make healthier choices with food. But along the way, my goals shifted more towards actually hearing what my body is telling me and honoring that. In more ways that just with food, but also with moving my body, and with the ways I think and speak about my body. My goal became trusting and loving my body instead. Amber 100% changed my life. The process can be challenging, but it is absolutely worth it. I no longer obsess about food. I no longer feel shame about food. Just saying that brings tears; I felt that shame for so long. I feel good in my body, as it is, in this moment. All of these things still take practice, but I now have the foundation and tools I need to do so.
